Trade union Aerodrom Ljubljana is preparing a protest rally on Thursday against announced layoffs, news website 24ur reported.
“The company, which has made multi-million profits on a regular basis in recent years – more than €20 million in the last two years alone – has almost immediately started laying off employees because of the problems caused by the epidemic,” the union wrote.
General manager Zmago Skobir explained that “airlines have been hurt, they now have a smaller fleet and are looking for markets that are open and attractive and where they will not have problems with COVID-19”.
According to the latest forecasts, he said, the expected decrease in traffic “calls for management action because there is just no work for everyone”. Skobir said the plan is to let go around 120 people or one-quarter of the entire airport staff.
