SOFIA – Government ‘slept’ on the European Green Deal

Bulgarian MEP Radan Kanev (EPP, Democratic Bulgaria) has criticised the Bulgarian government for not being more involved in discussions regarding the European Green Deal.

Kanev recalled that the country does not participate in the European Platform for coal regions in transition, nor does it have a strategy to modernise the energy sector or help the transition of the most affected regions.

As Bulgaria directly employs more than 12,000 Bulgarians in coal mining and as about half of the country’s electricity is generated by coal, Kanev argues that the government is putting the country at risk for losing a greatt opportunity to invest in a modern economy.
