Turkey will be present in Bosnia and Herzegovina but only if Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats unite and say they want Turkey as a mediator, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan told local reporters upon his return from last week’s visit to BiH and Montenegro.

“I already told them, if you make such a decision, we will also make our assessments. Make this decision as the three, don’t wait for instructions from somewhere else,” Erdoğan said.

The Serb member of the BiH Presidency, Milorad Dodik, has called on Croatian President Zoran Milanović to act as mediator with the presidents of Turkey and Serbia in talks on BiH’s future, saying that he no longer trusts international officials as so far they have represented Bosniaks’ interests.

Dodik’s proposal for the president is well-intentioned but unrealistic as it is opposed by the other two members of the BiH Presidency, President Milanović said.

“I don’t see how the two countries that have carried out an act of aggression against BiH could today have greater international credibility than the United States, Great Britain, Germany, France, the EU, UN or Russia for that matter, which witnessed the signing of the Dayton Agreement,” said the current chairman of the BiH Presidency, Željko Komšić.
