The timing of Malta’s forthcoming general election will not be dependent on the election of the new Partit Nazzjonalista (PN) leader, Prime Minister Robert Abela has said.
“A general election will come at a time when the country needs it,” the Maltese Prime Minister said on ONE TV at the weekend, adding that neither of the candidates running for the leadership of the opposition PN party would be “suitable for the country.”
A leadership race is currently underway in the PN ranks between incumbent Adrian Delia and Bernard Grech, a lawyer by profession.
Grech came under criticism over the weekend after an investigation by Malta Today revealed that he had a history of unpaid taxes in the country. (Samuel Stolton | EURACTIV.com)
