VIENNA – First disagreement within the new coalition

While a ban on headscarves for schoolgirls under 14 had already been agreed after the Greens reluctantly agreed to the conservative ÖVP’s proposal, the suggestion to also include teachers in the ban was quickly rejected by the Greens.

Vice-Chancellor and leader of the Austrian Green Party Werner Kogler said that such an expansion was “unimaginable” and that there is “dissent” between the parties on this issue.

This quarrel might foreshadow what lies in store for this young yet loveless coalition between conservatives and the Greens, especially with regard to migration matters. (Philipp Grüll | EURACTIV.de)
