Zlata Hrvoj Šipek was sworn in as the new chief state prosecutor in front of parliament speaker Gordan Jandroković, announcing that she, as the first woman in Croatian history to be appointed to the post, will prove her office to be an independent institution which citizens can trust.
Hrvoj Šipek will succeed Dražen Jelinić, who had to step down after it was discovered he was a member of the Illuminati.
Hrvoj Šipek’s appointment was a bone of contention between President Zoran Milanović (former S&D) and the ruling government (HDZ-EPP) because the president accused the government of politicising the institution.
The new chief state prosecutor was selected through a public call for application, after which the government had decided on the best candidate for the position, who was then confirmed by the parliamentary committee.
