Croatian MP and former Foreign Minister Miro Kovač (HDZ, EPP) have published a statement demanding Prime Minister Andrej Plenković to accept responsibility for a crushing defeat in last week’s elections.
“We failed to face our failures after European and presidential election results. We are running out of time. Our defeat can easily be explained; voters are not satisfied with our recent policy. You cannot punish the voters, but they can punish you” wrote Kovač, one of the party members who has already announced his candidacy to become party president.
The PM was also criticised by HDZ’s MEP Karlo Ressler in an interview this week, saying that nobody will have his automatic support on inner-party elections. Considering that the PM was pushing Ressler’s career, this came as a surprise. (Tea Trubić Macan | EURACTIV.hr)
