Adkham Ikramov, Chairman of the Chamber of Trade and Industry of Uzbekistan, commended the efforts of Uzbekistan’s government since 2013 to eliminate child and forced labour in the cotton harvesting sector.

He further highlighted the steps the government has taken to introduce modernisations and mechanisations in the agriculture and particularly the cotton harvesting sector, to increase productivity and reduce forced labour.

On the sidelines of an EURACTIV event on clothing imports to the EU, Ikramov expressed his hopes that these changes will have positive impacts on the exports of textile products to the EU, which currently only makes up 5-6% of Uzbekistan’s overall textile exports.
