EU leaders elected Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Saturday to replace Herman Van Rompuy as the next President of the European Council.

“This is a very important moment because I am convinced that my legacy, my personal experience and our European dreams can become an important source of energy. This energy is so important for the EU now and even more important in the future.” Tusk said.

Donald Tusk, alongside Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini, who will replace EU foreign Affairs chief Catherine Ashton, were elected during the EU Council Summit in Brussels over the weekend.
