Ambitious “Clean Air for Europe” Programme

An ambitious air quality programme launched by the Commission aims at combating Europe’s major air pollution

CAFE is the first of the thematic strategies announced in the Commission’s proposal for a 6th Environmental Action Programme. The “Clean Air for Europe” programme will prepare a review of the EU’s existing air quality directives by 2004. It should develop into a five-year policy review of air quality.

 

An ambitious air quality programme launched by the Commission on Monday 7 May aims at combating Europe's major air pollution. The "Clean Air for Europe" (CAFE) programme will focus especially on particulate matter and ground-level ozone, which have been identified as the air pollutants of greatest concern because of their effect on human health.
