On her arrival at the December 2014 EU Summit,German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Europe “must combine both, budgetary consolidation and growth. Deficits don’t necessarily lead to growth, we are hoping for common solutions.”
Speaking about setting the EU’s climate and energy goals for 2030, Merkel said that “discussions will not be easy, it is not sure we will have a result.”
“Germany supports a CO2 emissions reduction of 40% as a binding target for 2040. I underline that until 2020 we have 20% reduction compared to 1990. We now want to have another 20% reduction until 2030 – that’s a heavy effort,” she added.
