Improving project communication skills at IST 2004

The 2004 edition of Europe’s biggest information technologies
event brings together industry, policy-makers and the research
community for three days of networking. It is also a
good place to learn about communicating research results.

Information and communication technology professionals will meet
to network and exchange information at the    IST 2004 event in The Hague from 15-17 November 2004.
It is the most important European event on information society
technologies, expected to attract over 4,000 participants. The
event, which consists of conferences, workshops and
exhibitions (including the IST prize event), will take place under
the theme “people and the economy”.

The conference will include a keynote address by Laurens Jan
Brinkhorst, the Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, as well as
panel discussions on the future of IST research strategy, the
impact of the global economy on communication technologies,
ICT as a driver for productivity, innovation and growth, the
industrial deployment of ICT and much more.

Moreover, a networking session on 16 November will focus on
improving the communication efforts of EU-funded projects. This
session entitled   ‘Communicating IST Projects & Results to the Marketplace, Media & Society: Expert advice & insights’ will provide
practical help for the dissemination of project results by
communication experts from CORDIS, IST Results, EURACTIV and
AlphaGalileo.

Information Society Technologies (IST) are today a key priority
under the EU’s Sixth Framework Programme (FP6). It is also one of the major tools of the
e-Europe 2005 Action Plan which aims to bring citizens, businesses
and administrations into the digital age.

The IST 2005-2006 work programme was published recently and the
4th call for this priority is expected to be launched during
the event. Preparations are currently underway for the next generation of IST projects to be funded
under the 7th Framework Programme for research (FP7), due to begin
in 2007.
