3G – Germany still failing to connect

The subscriber numbers for UMTS (3G) technology, the third-generation of mobile telephony, are growing in leaps and bounds worldwide, says Deutsche Bank’s Stafan Heng. But it should be generally borne in mind that optimistic reports on the growth of subscriber numbers do not necessarily go hand in hand with the commercial success of a technology. The 3G situation in Germany, he says, is very sobering to date.
