On Wednesday, the European Commission rejected suggestions that the EU had ‘played a role’ in the flag stunt that happened during a football match between Serbia and Albania.

The Euro 2016 game was abandoned after a drone carrying an Albania flag appeared above the field, sparking a fight between the players.

The EU Executive called the episode an “act of provocation”.

“We are disappointed with the football match that you just mentioned yesterday following an act of provocation”. EU spokesperson Maja Kocijancic said. “We consider that politics should not be driven by stadium provocations.” she added.
