Eurogroup, Greece fail to reach debt deal

On Wednesday, eurozone finance ministers failed to reach an agreement on a way forward for Greece’s bailout programme.

“We had an intense discussion and constructive covering (of) a lot of ground… but not enough progress yet at this point to come to joint conclusions,” said Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem.

After seven hours of talks in Brussels, finance ministers were unable to agree on a joint statement on the next procedural steps. Both sides played down the setback, insisting there had been no rupture.

“We did not come to joint conclusions and if you do not come to joint conclusions, you cannot put out a statement,” Dijsselbloem added.

EU finance ministers are expected to meet again next Monday.
