COP27: EU, US push back on climate ‘loss and damage’ reparation fund

While small island states and poor countries are pushing for the creation of a new fund to compensate for the ‘loss and damage’ caused by climate-related disasters, the US and Europe have coordinated a gentle but firm pushback.

“The scope of our conversation is not going to be focused on one single solution" such as "the establishment of a new fund or a facility at this COP,” said the European Commission’s chief advisor for international climate relations, Jacob Werksman (C). [UNFCCC]
