The tragic drama of the 58 dead Chinese illegal immigrants in Dover urges a rethink of the EU's immigration policy. Belgian's Interior Minister Duquesne on Thursday proposed to accelerate the implementation of the 'scoreboard' of the European Commission on migration and asylum.

During a conference on international crime in Bucarest, a spokesperson of Interpol pointed to the growth of organised crime in most of the Eastern European countries after the fall of the communist regime. Some EU countries are afraid that enlargement could lead to an influx of immigrants from candidate countries.
