Comments on: New OECD report shows recycling’s Herculean task EU news and policy debates across languages Tue, 28 Aug 2018 21:27:57 +0000 hourly 1 By: Mike Parr Fri, 25 May 2018 15:46:50 +0000 The OECD report addresses symptoms (packaging – the need to recycle) not causes – the need for packaging. Efficiently recyling plastic packaging is thus, at best a short term (5 – 10 years?) solution. Given this, there is a bit missing from this sentence: “Plastic production is still the go-to option over recycling”……in the short term – there fixed it for you.

Oil-based packaging has no future in the medium-long term – if (& it is a big IF) society is serious about moving to carbon neutrality . For the most part it oil-based packaging does not bio-degrade & has been adopted on scale it has because it suits various business models – primarily those of super-markets. Thus there are two pathways with respect to packaging: minimise packaging (path one), use bio-degradable packaging which could be re-used if re-cycled. (path two).
