France adopts fuel supply measures amid refinery strikes

The French government adopted new measures to tackle the current shortage in fuel supplies faced by petrol stations due to continued fuel refinery strikes and panic buying throughout the country.

Supply issues are being caused by the ongoing strikes staged over the past two weeks by refinery workers — at TotalEnergies and Exxon for example — demanding wage increases. Three of France's seven oil refineries are shut down, as is the TotalEnergies oil depot in Flanders, near Dunkirk, and the La Mède biorefinery. [Alexandros Michailidis / Shutterstock]
