EU energy ministers have agreed their position on the draft directive on indirect land-use change (ILUC), which caps the amount of biofuels that can count towards renewable energy targets.

The aim of the legislation, which amends the fuel quality and renewable energy directives, is to start a transition to biofuels that deliver greenhouse gas savings and encourage investment in new biofuels. The decision paves the way for negotiations with the European Parliament.

EURACTIV spoke to the European Environmental Bureau’s Faustine Defossez about  the decision and what it means.
