Greetings from Sofia. As far back as 753 B.C. only two of the contemporary European capitals were present on the map of old Europe: Sofia and Athens. Sofia is an ancient city with a rich history and a unique atmosphere. It is a city that proudly goes through the centuries and is well worthy of its name, Sofia – “wisdom of God”.
The history of Bulgartransgaz EAD began in 1974. Within a single decade, the company enabled the development of entire sectors of industry. The Bulgarian gas transmission operator strives to ensure a safe, efficient, and evolving gas infrastructure in Bulgaria and the region. In parallel with the construction of new facilities, the company continously updates the system in accordance with the modern practices in the gas industry.
From its establishment to the present day, Bulgartransgaz has developed and is managing over 1,700 kilometers of gas pipelines and the length of the transit network pipelines is 945 kilometers. Today, the company operates with assets exceeding 1 billion euro. The company also owns and operates the first gas storage facility on the Balkan penninsula, Chiren. An ambitous programme of expansion and modernisation is underway. It is going to become a facility of regional significance and play a key role for the implementation of a number of European projects.
Today, the company is part of the Single European Free and Competitive Gas Market. The activity of Bulgartransgaz is reflected in its slogan, “Energy in motion” We will be glad if you can see it in June of 2016, when Sofia will host the annual GIE Conference.
