Turkey compared with EU candidates by TISK

Turkish Employer Unions Confederation (TISK)
issued a new research which is comparing the socioeconomic
condition of the 12 European Union candidate states and Turkey.

According to TISK’s “comparison report,” the
increase in the population in Turkey is seven times more than
Europe’s, while the population in Bulgaria, Czech Republic,
Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania is
decreasing. The report indicated that while the population in all
the candidate states, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary,
Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Southern
Cyprus and Malta is 105 million, Turkey’s population is 67
million.

In the report it was also stated that Turkey has
lands which is approximately at the same size “about 25 percent” of
the 15 membered European Union’s lands and it was added that the
total area of the candidate states is one million and 87 thousand
square kilometer, while Turkey’s is 769 thousand square
kilometer.

In the report it was also stated that the
economic volume of Turkey is incomparable with the 12 candidate
states, and added the National income is half of the all the
candidate states. But it was also stated in the report that the
National income per person in Turkey is the lowest after Bulgaria
and Romania. The highest level in the National income per person
indicator belongs to Southern Cyprus while the EU average is 3.5
times more than Turkey.

It was stated in the report that Turkey’s
spenditures for information technologies is very low in comparison
with the other candidate states and EU members.

“The average doctor number for a hundred
thousand people is 289 and this number is 119 in Turkey” said in
the report and added, “also Turkey could not reach the dentist
number of the candidate states while this number is 53 for a
hundred thousand people in the candidate states, this is 20 in
Turkey. It was also stated that the automobile number in the
candidate states for a thousand people is 311 but in Turkey it is
68.

In the report, it was said that Turkey has
reached the EU according to mobile phone indicators, among the
candidate states the number who have a mobile phone is 236 for a
thousand people while it is 229 in Turkey.
