Turkish EU minister: It is time for the EU to stop being prisoner of the Cyprus question

The Cyprus issue should not take over on EU-Turkish relations. The EU should “look at the forest” where there are “huge benefits”, Turkey’s EU affairs minister Volkan Bozk?r told EURACTIV in an exclusive interview.

The trade between the EU and Turkey is over €150 billion. The EU relies on Turkey for its energy security. When fire is on the region, Turkey remains a stable country. Turkey is hosting 2 million Syrian refugees and spent $4.5 billion to make them comfortable. If Turkey hadn’t done this, they would be running or swimming to the EU countries, Bozk?r argued.

He was speaking to EURACTIV’s Senior Editor Georgi Gotev.
