UPDATE: After Ireland’s Phil Hogan tendered his resignation, the government must now propose a new candidate for the empty slot.
After a lengthy approval process, which saw three candidates rejected by the European Parliament and the United Kingdom refuse to name a candidate, von der Leyen’s Commission composing of 27 members has now taken office.
There are also five regular vice-presidents: Josep Borrell, Věra Jourová, Margaritis Schinas, Maroš Šefčovič and Dubravka Šuica.
