National experts to advise commission on simplification

The Commission has appointed a high-level national experts group to help with the simplification and improvement of European and national legislation. The group will not give opinions on specific legislative proposals.

Better regulation and simplification of the EU’s legislation is one of the cornerstones of the Lisbon Strategy for growth and jobs. In order to coordinate the work done at EU level and at national level to simplify the regulatory environment, the Commission has appointed on 1 March a new high-level group of national experts.

The group will not be asked to give its opinion on specific legislative texts or proposals but will:

  • be the interface between the Commission and national governments on matters of better regulation;
  • spread information on best practices;
  • help with the development of indicators to measure progress as regards simplification of EU and nationals laws.
