Italy’s Prime Minister Matteo Renzi was visibly angry on Wednesday after EU leaders failed to appoint Italian Federica Mogherini as the next EU Foreign Affairs Chief.

“Today the meeting could have been more incisive had it been better prepared. They said we would come out of here with an agreement and then very gently, President Van Rompuy explained that there was no agreement. And I have allowed myself to tell him that if next time he sends us an sms saying that beforehand we could have spared the flight to come to Brussels for you to stay here until 2 am.” Renzi said.
