Analysis: Mergers: linking the single market with common policies

André Ferron analyses some of the reasons that may explain the recent mergers and their consequences upon the EU single market. “Following the opening gong sounded by the Mittal takeover bid on Arcelor, there were clear signs of aggression in the electricity and gas market. Gas Natural wanted to gain control over its Spanish compatriot, Endesa, while EON, the German transnational rushed to its rescue”, he said.
