Spanish voters undecided over EU Constitution

Almost sixty per cent of Spaniards asked in a recent opinion
poll said they did not know whether to vote in favour or against
the EU Constitution.

A recent opinion poll in Spain has revealed that 58.8 per cent
of respondents have yet to decide which way to vote in
the upcoming referendum on the EU Constitution. Among the
respondents with a firm view, 28.1 per cent were in favour and
4.6 per cent against. A vast majority of the respondents
agreed that the Constitution will help the process of European
integration. The survey conducted by the Spanish
Instituto Opina for El País  asked 1,000 people
about their views on the new treaty.

Spain will be the first country to hold a
referendum, on 20 February. It will be followed by
between a minimum of eight and a maximum of fifteen
others, including France, Poland and the UK.

Two countries, Lithuania and Hungary, have already ratified
the treaty through a parliamentary vote.
