Young people from all EU Member States have been meeting in the European Parliament to debate the EU humanitarian effort.
On 20 January 2004, the European Parliament and the Humanitarian Aid Office of the European Commission (ECHO) met for a youth information and awareness-raising day known as 'Youth Solidarity Day'.
Themes treated during the Youth Solidarity Day included refugees and displaced people, hunger, water and sanitation for health, landmines and other security problems and child soldiers. The UN agencies, the Red Cross and humanitarian NGOs all took part in the conference.
At the end of the event, the 550 young participants will adopt a resolution on actions to be taken to ensure a continued strong EU humanitarian effort.
