Gates urges Trump not to defund foreign aid

Bill Gates spoke at the European Commission on Thursday (16 February) urging world leaders, including Donald Trump, not to defund foreign aid spending.

When asked about the retreat of the US as the biggest aid donor in the world, Gates said, “In my view aid should go up. I don’t have a prediction, but I think now the people are looking at priorities.”

The Microsoft founder went on to say that funding has accomplished “miraculous things” including nearly wiping out Polio, yet citizens often don’t hear this side of the story.
