Merkel on refugee crisis: ‘International programmes are not sufficiently financed’

“We all, me included, have seen that the international programmes are not sufficiently financed. We hope for a signal that the gap in the WHO will be filled,” German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Wednesday (23 September).

Speaking upon her arrival to the European Council emergency summit in Brussels, Merkel said that Europe needs to “make a common reflection.”

“If we talk calmly, we will find a common solution. In such a big challenge, it would be wrong to say that Europe can not handle it. I believe Europe has the force for that,” she added.

EU leaders are meeting in Brussels to discuss measures to tackle the current migration crisis.
