Raif Badawi is the Saudi Arabian blogger imprisoned for ten years and sentenced to 1,000 lashes, after being arrested on charges of insulting Islam on a website.
His wife Ensaf Haidar told EURACTIV that her husband could still face the death penalty for apostasy: the abandonment of Islamic beliefs.
She said that despite all his suffering, Badawi, named a prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International, remains convinced that the freedom of expression is worth fighting for.
Haidar called on European Union leaders to demand Badawi’s immediate release.
