Speaking ahead of a European Council meeting in Brussels on Friday, new Finnish Prime Minister Alexander Stubb said that the potential election of Jean-Claude Juncker as the next Commission President against the UK’s will is not going to push Britain ‘closer to leaving the EU’.

Stubb also referred to the signing of an Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova as a victory.

Europe’s heads of state and government are gathering in Ypres and Brussels on Thursday and Friday to discuss the strategic priorities for Europe in the next five years and to chose who will become the next president of the European Commission.
