The economic impact of non-melanoma skin cancer on the society and the welfare system

Despite the solid evidence that outdoor workers in various workplaces across Europe are exposed to elevated levels of UV radiation and are consequently at a significantly increased risk of developing non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), this evidence has yet not been translated into a common European regulatory approach. Also the economic burden of work-related skin cancer due to UV radiation has continuously put national governments and their healthcare systems under significant economic strain. It is needed to increase awareness among and protection for those who work outdoors and to establish the necessary preventive methods.
