On 18-19 September, the management board of EFSA is to approve its operating methods and appoint its chairman and vice-chairman.
The management board of the European Food Safety Authority will meet for the first time, in Brussels. As its first most important task over the coming months, the board will appoint the Executive Director. S/he will be responsible for the day to day management and should be in post by early 2003. The Advisory Forum will be set up next, comprising representatives from the competent bodies in the Member States with similar functions to those of the Authority. The fourth main element will be the creation of the Scientific Committee and Panels that will be responsible for scientific assessment of food safety issues.
