Euro Science Open Forum 2004 brings together researchers, media and industry

The first pan-European event for scientists and
communicators will take place in Stockholm on 25-28 August
2004. Over 2,000 participants are expected to
attend.

The Euro Science Open Forum 2004 will, for the
first time, bring together researchers from various
disciplines as well as media and companies at pan-European
level. The objective of the event, which will take place in
Stockholm on 25-28 August 2004, is to further
interdisciplinary dialogue, bring together different
generations of researchers and open up science for the
wider public. Moreover, it will allow young researchers to
network with some of the big names in science and industry.
The event is being organised by EuroScience, a pan-European
association comprising some 1,500 scientists, to contribute
to the creation of the European Research Area. “EuroScience
calls upon all the governments of Europe and all
international European agencies to support the ESOF 2004
Open Forum and ensure its success as a necessary part of a
common strategy towards the European Research Area,” said
Euroscience President Jean-Patrick Connerade. Over 250
speakers will present a variety of subjects to an expected
audience of 2,000-3,000. These include the latest
scientific advances in areas such as nanoscience, global
warming and genetics as well as wider issues dealing with
innovation and creativity in Europe, science communication
and the commercialisation of universities. Moreover, many
other events and activities will take place in museums,
theatres and schools in Stockholm in an effort to reach out
to the general public.
