European Business Summit in search of European excellence

One week before the EU spring summit takes stock of the progress of the Lisbon strategy leaders from the world of politics and business meet to debate how to build European excellence.

The European Business Summit will bring together leading figures from the world of politics and business in Brussels to debate what the 25 EU members states are doing to promote jobs and growth on 16 and 17 March in Brussels.

The national actions plans to revive the Lisbon-strategy, which will be at the heart of the EU spring summit a week later, will be provided “with a corporate reality-check” at the European Business Summit.

Participants include Austria’s chancellor Wolfgang Schüssel, President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso, Commissioners Verheugen and Potocnik. From the world of business Jeroen van der Veer, CEO of Shell and Lakshmi Mittal, CEO of Mittal Steel, will attend among many others. 

Seeking to address some radical options for promoting labour reforms  EURACTIV will organise a special panel on 17 March. The participants of the panel, “Socio-economic reforms: solutions…?”  will include Reiner Hoffman, Deputy General Secretary, ETUC,  Maja Wessels, Vice President, Honeywell, former chair AmCham EU, Hans Martens, Chief Executive, The European Policy Centre, and Jakob von Weizsäcker of the think tank Bruegel.
