European Foundation makes first assessment of impact of knowledge society

On 21 November the European Foundation presented a first set of indicators to assess the impact of the knowledge society on the way we live and work.

The indicators, presented at the conference 'European Knowledge Society Foresight' on 21-22 November 2002 in Brussels, are a first result on a research project on European Knowledge Society Foresight, initiated by the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions. The aim of the project is to explore the foresight methodology to get a better understanding of the drivers of change in the knowledge society.

The Foundation research project will prepare national knowledge foresights accessing the impact on working and living conditions, and industrial relations, towards the middle of 2003. The results should support DG Information Society in achieving the Lisbon goals of becoming the most advanced knowledge-based society by 2010.

The European Foundation is a tripartite EU body providing key actors in social policymaking with findings, knowledge and advice drawn from comparative research.
