The sixth Future Media Lab. conference took place on 26 January 2016 in Brussels.

The conference, titled “Technology and Media: Shaping the Future of Audience Engagement” was a one-day event that included a keynote address, panel discussions, reality checks with facts and figures, and two interactive sessions. Approximately 150 politicians, media experts, journalists, publishers and start-ups joined the event to kick off a debate about how technology can be used to engage audiences and monetise participation.

Creation, distribution and monetization of quality content, the relationship between media and technology companies, innovations and technologies that are shaping the future of media and how they impact or disrupt existing markets and a regulatory environment appropriate for sustainable business models for media companies in Europe were the major topics the conference looked at.

The key message was crystal clear: a structured collaboration between media and technology companies, publishers and platforms is absolutely necessary for a bright and mutually beneficial future.
