The first European Business Summit was held in
Brussels between June 9th and 11th. Business leaders and
policy-makers from all over Europe met during this event
whose aim was to provide the EU with “a major boost to
innovation and creativity”.
During this three-day summit, the following objectives
were being put forward: simplification of the regulatory
framework (including taxation) within a really completed
Internal Market; better dialogue and cooperation between
public and private research; change in the attitude to
risk-taking and entrepreneurship (incl. tolerance for
failure); involvement of business representatives in the
preparation of regulation.
Opponents to the event were less numerous than
expected and no Seattle-like trouble was reported.
