EU leaders condemned on Wednesday the terrorist attack on the French weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo, calling it an “act of barbarism.”

3 suspected Islamist gunmen armed with Kalashnikov rifles burst into the newspaper’s office in Paris on Wednesday morning, killing 12 people.

“In a moment where the values of our societies are attacked by terrorists, we should stick together to defend our values. Freedom of press, freedom of speech, mutual respect and tolerance: that’s the basis of our society,” European Parliament President Martin Schulz said.
