American president Clinton is continuing his European tour with an official visit to Russia' s new president Putin. Both world leaders discussed arms control, with the Russians expressing again their concern over US plans to develop an anti-missile system. The two countries approved a deal to destroy 68 metric tons of weapons-grade plutonium and decided to build a high-tech global missile control centre in Moscow.
On Friday, the American president had urged the EU and NATO to keep the doors of membership open for Russia, the Balkans and Turkey.
