A high level delegation of the EU will be meeting with Russian leaders today in a special EU-Russia Summit in Moscow. On the agenda are issues concerning defence policy, enlargement and trade. Although the EU is expected to raise the Chechnya conflict, it is highly unlikely that the EU will risk any major dispute with newly elected Russian president Putin.

The EU-Russia Summit is held twice a year. It was originally introduced under the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement that entered into force on 1 December 1997.
