The Ukraine electoral commission has officially declared Viktor Yushchenko the winner of the ‘third round’ of Ukraine’s presidential elections. Results confirm Yushchenko’s victory with 51.99% of votes against 44.2% for Viktor Yanukovich, a lead of 2.27 million votes. Turnout was 77.19%, the electoral commission chief declared in a television address on 10 January. Yushchenko will take office after an inauguration due to take place on 15-16 January. But the process could be delayed as supporters of Yanukovich pledged to lodge a complaint before the Ukraine Supreme Court.
