This short article, written by Vira Nanivska, director of the International Centre for Policy Studies in Kiev and published by Europe’s World, offers a snapshot of the Ukrainians’ perception of the EU.

A poll by the Democratic Initiatives Foundation last March suggested that 44% of Ukrainians would approve their country’s accession to the European Union, even though few of them know much about the EU.

“Two-thirds of Ukrainians are not aware of what the European Union is and need information about this organisation. The government must carry out an active campaign to explain why this organisation exists and how Ukrainians will benefit from Ukraine’s accession to the EU,” commented the foundation’s director, Ilko Kucheriv.
