That’s how in Bulgaria censorship is avoided.

In my view, the journalists should establish a code of conduct and have it respected. If a journalist lies, or manipulates the truth, s/he should be punished. How? Suspending the professional certification for a certain period and giving a fine to her/his media organization. Or simply by pointing to the truth and shaming the liars. Because, as someone who reads both official news and less official sources, I find the official media more dangerous, because it gives the news it provides a certain credibility. If the NYT says it… it must be true. Unfortunately that no longer holds. After Kosovo, Iraq and Libya, about which the media lied outright or played with the truth, one trusts it at its own peril. The hysteria surrounding the attack on the ex-Russian spy is a case in point, and a recent one.
