EU leaders discuss migration, vaccination, security at the last summit of the year on 16 December. [European Council]

EU leaders held the last summit of the year on Thursday (16 December) to discuss external challenges (Russia, migration) and agree on ways to boost vaccination and contain the coronavirus pandemic.

While they agreed on harsher wording and a threat of comprehensive sanctions against Russia, there was no consensus in the debate about gas prices, the reform of the EU’s carbon market and wording about nuclear energy in the EU’s green taxonomy.
