Bulgarian MEP Alexander Yordanov (EPP) insulted well-known radio journalist Silvia Velikova, calling her a “neighbourhood gossip girl” for having asked “dumb questions” during Sunday’s interview on the programme “Politically Incorrect”.
Following the interview, Yordanov posted on Facebook that Velikova was repeating herself like a “broken gramophone.” The Bulgarian MEP deleted his comment the day after.
Last year, Velikova was removed from live broadcasting because she was asking tough questions to Ivan Geshev, who at the time was a candidate for the chief prosecutor position.
The radio journalists’ The revolt of the radio journalists provoked the reaction of Boyko Borissov (who called the journalists “turkeys”) and Velikova was returned to the air, and the general director of the radio Svetoslav Kostov resigned later.
Silvia Velikova’s colleagues in the Bulgarian National Radio came up with a position after the scandal with Alexander Yordanov: “Journalists in the BNR’s Horizon program do not ask convenient questions. We are loyal to our audience, not to the strong of the day. Our style is bold and free journalism, and our corrective is only the truth. We categorically reject the attempts of the MEP Alexander Yordanov, who is dissatisfied with his interview in “Politically Incorrect” to discredit the presenter Silvia Velikova, “the journalists say.
The editorial added that “unfortunately, he is not the only one who wants convenient questions and PR monologues on the air.”
