BRUSSELS – Recovery fund money ‘not enough’ for Belgium

Walloon Minister-President, Elio Di Rupo (PS), said on Thursday (11 June) that crisis aid to be provided to the region within the framework of the European Commission’s post-COVID-19 recovery fund was “insufficient”.

Under current plans, Belgium would be able to claim €5.48 billion out of a total of €750 billion, if the Commission’s proposal were to be accepted as it stands.

Although he welcomed the effort made by the European Commission as “a step in the right direction”, the aid is “insufficient” at this stage of the negotiations, Di Rupo said speaking to the Wallonia’s parliament’s commission in charge of European issues.
