The construction of a factory for the production of vaccines of Chinese company Sinopharm began in the Belgrade municipality of Zemun on Thursday, as a joint investment of Serbia, China and the United Arab Emirates, worth €30 million.

The factory, which will occupy an area of 11,800 square metres during the initial phase, will produce around 30 million vaccines annually and have the capacity for 40 million.

The plan is for the factory to be completed in the first quarter of next year when Sinopharm vaccines are set to be packaged in the filling plant in Hemofarm.

The laying of the foundation stone for the factory was attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who said it would be one of the most modern factories in the world, where the Chinese vaccine would be improved and, in the future, filled with new components.

The first section for filling the vaccines would be completed by March next year, while the section for the production of the active substance in the vaccine is set to be completed by 2023, Vučić added.
